The Breathe & Learn Facilitator Program
Become a Breathe & Learn Facilitator and use yoga and mindfulness to create nurturing, mindful spaces for kids to flourish and thrive!
What is Breathe & Learn?
Breathe & Learn is a curriculum-based yoga and mindfulness program for elementary and middle-school children. Our mission is to create a positive and safe environment where students can be self reflective and use yoga and mindfulness as tools to strengthen their emotional intelligence.
The curriculum was designed through the lens of emotional intelligence and yoga, and focuses on four main skills: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management. All weekly topics support the development of these four core skills. The first half of the curriculum focuses on the personal competency skills, while the second half addresses the social competency skills.
What are the Benefits of Breathe & Learn?
Emotional Awareness: The combination of mindfulness and yoga work helps students identify and regulate emotions. We nurture emotional intelligence through discussions and activities centered around the weekly topics. Building strong self-awareness and social awareness are at the core of our program.
Stress Management: The movement and relaxation portion of class gives students the time and space to release energy and slow down. They learn breathing exercises, visualizations and postures they can use outside of the yoga studio.
Sense of Self: The journaling portion and weekly topics support students in developing a true sense of self.
Physical Development: Students practice postures and play games which require balance and hand-eye coordination. They also learn to connect breath and movement.
Positive Relationships: Small-group work and partner postures provide opportunities for students to build and maintain relationships with their peers and teachers.
Creativity: Yoga flows, stories and games engage imaginations and offer an alternative way for students to practice and showcase their yoga knowledge.

Who can become a B&L Facilitator?
Your Instructor
Hi! I'm Joanie, the founder and CEO of Breathe & Learn. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the Facilitator Program. We'll get to know each other more in the training, but here's a quick look at my background.
My teaching and yoga journey began while living in New York City and earning my Masters in Elementary and Special Education at New York University. After teaching for three years at The Brooklyn New School (a magical place) and practicing yoga at various studio throughout the city (Ishta Yoga and Laughing Lotus were my favorites!), I craved more sunshine and decided to head west.
I moved to Los Angeles in 2013 and became a founding teacher at Citizens of the World Charter School Mar Vista, a place that valued social-emotional learning and incorporated mindfulness for staff and students from day one. I found that daily breathing exercises and meditation worked wonders in helping my students self-regulate and manage their emotions. In addition, the physical postures offered a fun introduction to healthy living. I graduated from the 200 hr. Soho Yoga Teacher Training in April 2016 and shortly after, received my children's certification through Yoga Ed.
I officially founded Breathe & Learn in 2017. In addition to running after-school programs and special events for students in Pre-K - 8th grade, I continue to consult with local schools on implementing and creating social-emotional learning and mindfulness curriculums. If I'm not teaching yoga, I'm probably practicing:)
I'm looking forward to supporting you in sharing yoga and mindfulness with children.
